"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
When we are children we have so many big dreams. We dream of being superheroes, princesses, and world changers. My 10 year old son’s dream is to open a complex and fill it with rescue dogs so that every dog has a home.
When did you stop dreaming? Was it when someone told you that you weren’t smart enough for that career? Or maybe when you were overlooked again for that promotion? Maybe you just came to the realization that dreams don’t really come true and they certainly don’t pay the bills.
But God doesn’t want us to stop dreaming. He wants us to dream BIG dreams! Dreams that seem impossible and scary. Dreams that will only work if God shows up.
If you have forgotten how to dream, it’s never too late to start again. Here are a few ways to light that spark again:
Pray – Start by asking God to reveal the dream and plan that he has for you. You are not here by accident. He has a good and exciting plan and purpose just for you! (Ephesians 2:10)
Write Down Your Dreams – Think about all of the things that you have dreamed of being and dreamed of doing throughout your life and make a list. Is there a desire in your heart that just won’t go away? If it seems like a ridiculous, far fetched dream, perfect!! God is in the business of making ridiculous, far fetched dreams a reality.
What Breaks Your Heart – Often the dream that God puts in our heart centers around some of our deepest heartbreaks. It may be a hurt that you experienced yourself or it could be something that is happening in the world that breaks your heart.
Read Up – There are so many great resources to help you find the dream that has your name on it. Here are some of my favorites:
Do It – It’s really hard to drive a parked car. The same goes for your dream. You need to take the first step. It won’t be easy and it will be scary but do it anyway. If God put the dream in your heart He will make it happen.
Dear Lord, thank you for placing dreams in our heart. How wonderful to know that you didn’t call us to live boring, mundane lives. You called us to an abundant life. A life filled with purpose and adventure! Please help us discover the dream that you put in our heart and give us the courage to chase after it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
